Shimla overview

Shimla Travel Guide
Shimla, once the summer capital of the British Raj, is known as the queen of the hill stations. Now the capital of Himachal Pradesh and packed with old colonial buildings such as the Viceregal Lodge it is probably most famous for a long pedestrianised street called the Mall. Here travellers can ignore the spectacular views of the valleys and foothills and get some serious shopping done. Scandal Point is the perfect place for people-watching and gazing at the far off, snow covered peaks. It got its name after a naughty Maharaja ran off with the daughter of an Imperial commander and is a place where lovers still congregate. Those wishing to stretch their legs might like to wonder around Summer Hill, Chadwick Falls, Prospect Hill and a number of other quaint reminders that the country’s British occupiers once spent their summers here.
