Maharashtra overview

Maharashtra Travel Guide
Sprawling Maharashtra, the second most populous state in India, stretches from the lush greens of the little-explored Konkan Coast to the arid lands of central India. The booming city of Mumbai is Maharashtra's capital and is one of the biggest cities in India. It is a vibrant city that has plenty of attractions to offer – such as dazzling night spots, sights, museums and esplanades. In the north of Maharashtra is Nasik, a city packed with Hindu pilgrims and exotic temples. Every 12 years, the city serves as host to Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious gathering. The next festival will be due in 2019. While to the south, travellers can experience ‘modern India’ at its finest in Pune. The recent influx of students in the city helped Pune transform from a previous sleepy town to a city with a very dynamic nightlife.
