Madhya Pradesh overview

Madhya Pradesh Travel Guide
Madhya Pradesh, India’s largest state, is often called the ‘Heart of India’. Without any doubt, the most popular destination in Madhya Pradesh is Khajuraho. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is famed for its 10th century Hindu and Jain temples with carved Kamasutra drawings. Although only a few of the religious monuments have erotic carvings, these temples are the main reason for Khajuraho’s growing popularity among tourists. Aside from Khajuraho, there are other must-see cities in Madhya Pradesh. The city of Bandhavgarh has the highest population of wild tigers in the world. At Bandhavgarh National Park, tourists will see tigers in their natural habitat. Aside from that, Bhopal, the state’s capital city, is known for its parks, mosques and lakes. The capital city is also a good starting point for a day-long tour to Sanchi; an important Buddhist site filled with monasteries and stupas.
