Junagadh overview

Junagadh Travel Guide
Junagadh is a small city and practically void of tourists. It is an old walled city at the foot of the impressive Girnar Hill that towers over the place. At different periods in history, Junagadh was under the influence of four major religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam. These religions helped shape Junagadh’s culture and architecture. Moreover, fourteen Ashokan edicts in 250 BC were inscribed in a rock located in Girnar, confirming Junagadh’s importance during the ancient times. The city is dotted with old buildings and colourful markets selling gold and silver embroideries, copper and brass vessels, and perfume. Junagadh is also famous for being the only place in India where wild Asiatic lions can still be seen.
